The Jojolands Chapter Two: A Japanese Man In Hawaii Review
The Jojolands Chapter 2 is finally here, on the cover we see Jodio doing a variation on Jotaro’s famous pose.
He looks so cool. Our actual start to this chapter past the cover shows more of Jodio selling Drugs, He and Paco are tricked by an undercover cop posing as a college student into selling drugs. However she actually ambushes them with a squad of police once she actually finds the drugs, even more unfortunately some of them are the same ones that previously bothered Jodio and Dragona in the car back in chapter 1, and I must say, If Araki wants the readers to hate these cops he is doing a very good job at it, because he portrays them as basically the most disgusting people in the world, which I find to be fair enough, there is widespread corruption in the real worlds police, so i'm curious to see how else this will be explored in the future. Jodio and Paco are both restrained, honestly I have no idea how they managed to restrain Paco, but Jodio uses November Rain to erase the drugs from existence entirely.
At this point I want to talk about November Rain, it comes down from the sky as rain, which non stand users can see, and it seems to… melt objects? Apparently Jodio didn't actually kill the cops back in Chapter 1 even though it definitely seemed like he did, so maybe things can recover from November Rain’s effects? I don't know but it is a pretty weird Stand. Also notably none of the cops can see it, so none of them are Stand users. After this we get a small moment which establishes something I find to be important. Paco says to himself that he actually likes Jodio, which is a notable piece of information to have as Paco didn't seem to really like any of the other group members in chapter 1, and Jodio even mentioned not thinking of him as a friend.
The scene directly after this honestly could become one of the most iconic moments in all of the Jojo’s series. Jodio talks directly to us, the viewers, and tells us that he was tested to see if he had Antisocial personality disorder, and he says that he as well as his mother Barbara Ann were both upset by the result suggesting that it did indeed seem to be the case. Jodio seems to ask the viewer questions here which is a very interesting style of writing, he asks “Can I be happy” and he says, that he thinks he can be, if he puts in the effort, and this adds some more depth to Jodio’s motivation to become rich, ultimately it is that he wants to be happy. He then laments that it's hard to be happy, when you can always run into terrible people like the cops. This is something I find pretty relatable honestly, it is hard when you have to deal with random horrible things that just happen, that are out of your own control.
After that scene we are shown a later scene at the airport, where the group is meeting, however Onesie Dog arrives late. The rest of the group took a flight to the Kona airport from where they live, and Onesie Dog went on a separate plane from the others, its neat to see that the story is already moving locations. It also turns out that Onesie Dogs actual name is “Usagi Alohaoe” which is honestly a funnier name than Onesie Dof, so i'm going to start calling him Usagi, You probably know that Usagi means Bunny in japanese, but Usagi’s connection to rabbits is fascinating, Not just for the fact that Usagi is a name he shares with famous characters like Usagi of Sailor Moon and Usagi Yojimbo, but also because Jodio seemed to have a rabbit connection when he was first revealed in that new years card, but it looks like the true rabbit was Usagi all along. Also the character of Funny Valentine was also heavily connected to Rabbits, so perhaps he has some form of connection with Usagi. I also want to note that Usagi is drinking a drink in this chapter, I hope him showing up with a food or drink item and doing a little pose with it becomes a running gag because honestly it' adorable.
After that they rent a car and head to the villa, Once they get there they figure out that the Villa’s owner is alone and they will probably be getting in the pool soon, so they decide to wait till the person is in the pool to move in and take the diamond, however they see a security camera. So Usagi uses his stand “The Matte Kudasai” in order to interfere with the camera’s, oddly enough the Matte Kudasai needs someone else to say they want it to do something other than Usagi, which is a pretty weird thing, I guess he won't be in any 1 on 1 fights. Basically Matte Kudasai is pretty similar to Ermes’ Kiss from part 6, It can turn itself into an object someone wishes for (I think? It's pretty confusing honestly). Also when used on the camera it creates two of them, one of them records what's actually going on, and the other is distorted, so maybe it can make weird copies of things? I'm not sure? Also its notable that “Matte Kudasai” is a King Crimson song, so perhaps Usagi has some connection to Doppio/Diavolo. So the group moves in, and as they actually see who the Person in the pool is, Jodio makes an observation.
Ignoring the fact that Jodio is a manga fan (which is pretty cool), Any Jojo fan who hasn't read the chapter yet, but just read this panel, already knows exactly who it is…
The chapter ends with the reveal of who has been at the Villa all this time, its beloved Jojo character Rohan kishibe! There have been many reimaginings of characters from the first 6 parts sense Part 7 started up the new universe, but Rohan here curiously looks completely identical to the original Rohan in every way! Could it be that Rohan has traveled dimensions? Well I guess we will have to wait and see.
